My original "square garden" is still doing great, with its dianthus (Cheddar Pinks), Oregano (Greek and Italian) and Bee Balm (purple-flowered) borders. I forgot that I snuck two rhubarb plants in the middle -- I removed one to a blank spot in the new rhubarb row. The sorrel in the center is STILL coming along slowly. More young ones planted June 12, 2007, sprinkled with Slug-Go to try to protect them against the voracious gastropods. The chartreuse-colored greek oregano and the bright cheddar pinks in full bloom against their greyish leaves June 10-12 were quite the florescent combo, but my cell phone is dying and it's taking a while to get the picture uploaded.
The currents got weeded a bit last fall, but need it again, plus some mulch. The three blueberries near the yurt are doing OK -- I weeded and mulched them. The earlier two aren't doing so well. I need to give them some major TLC.
The new flower bed was pretty high with goldenrod, which I left. The forsythia bush there is showing some nice growth--it should do well there.
New in May/June: Serviceberry (not looking so hot, two weeks later -- maybe needs 100% full sun?), grape vine and hazelnut. There's at least one grape still living from last year! The tallest part of the vine has no leaves, but lower down, a new branch is living. Asparagus bed: most lived, added compost Jun 11. Rhubarb: some better than others, but not a bad start to these, either.
Herbs from the Grand Isle garden: Started off with a row of oregano and one of thyme in the beds on the south side of the yurt, and catmint in the corners. A small bit of the Angelica should do well; some of the apple mint is barely hanging on, and the "I think it's hyssop, not the summer savory" was also looking good in its new location when I left June 12. Except for the thyme, these are all are in the bed with the chives--I'm working on my second perennial herb bed there.
