April 11-12: I'm doing a bit of gardening in Grand Isle, now. Mostly the same seeds planted--Peas, Maché, Edible Chrysanthamums, Leeks, Swiss Chard--and now it's going to rain for the next 10 days, more or less! [update: none of that early stuff grew except the peas]
April 2: first day of gardening of the year!
I got about 15 Strawberry plants and put them in a raised bed. The leaves I got from the town two years ago are a nice, spongy mixture of leave mold and rich black earth now. I plant the Strawberrries in a raised bed full of this humus. It's in one of the box sections I got for free from Webb's in town. [update: They are still alive...Eaten alive and will need to be protected if I ever want to see the berries. Also covered in weeds now...]
In the main part of the garden, I plant about 40 square feet of greens, and a double row of peas. I put last year's new fencing around it to keep out the bunnies. Each row is about 6 or 7 feet:

[update: the peas grew great, the mustard in the mesclun grew, of course, and I got some swiss chard]
I planted two little pots of German Chamomile near the Soapwort. [6/18: soapwort no longer found; chamomile smaller, but alive]
Then, I planted some chives and leeks, and some more Black-Seeded Simpson in the bed with the sage that produced such good lettuce last year. [update: no lettuce this year, anywhere.]
I found a rotting Spagetti Squash, and threw it on an empty bed, near the spruce I planted.
Next visit will be in a few weeks. I hope I can get back before May 15th! I put storm windows over some of the beds to warm up the earth--though it's doing OK now--and supress weeds.
[update: that was a mistake. Three years later, I'm still picking broken glass out of the dirt.]
I pulled weeds and brambles away from the flame azalaes. The daffodils are all three to four inches tall now.
